Return of the Clap

 The Underdog in Clapham Common has always been Statues of Us’ favourite place to play. Some cynics wrongly suggest it is because they actually pay us money. Others say it’s because they plough us with free booze. However, the truth of the matter is that this is where we, as a band, have cut our teeth as performers.

We have been playing Sunday nights regularly over the last year but starting this Friday April 19th – we will be kicking off the weekend in style in Clapham’s coolest bar. To celebrate, here are our top 3 performing moments from The Underdog.

 1) First Night: Arrive with the assumption that the venue provides the equipment. Feel very impotent with acoustic guitar and aluminous leads. Pank solves problem. Cracking night achieved.

2) More Equipment Problems: Mic Stands disappear. Johny Crow plays with his mike gaffa taped to a broom on wheels. New trend fails to take off in London.

3) A Quiet Sunday Night: With the rain pouring down apocalyptic-ally… outside, Statues play an ‘experimental’ cover of Kylie Minogue as the one man in the bar sensually strips.

4) Australia Day: Really can’t remember anything about this night but video suggests a packed house full of people with stars on their face.

5) Frizzy Stix Raps the Menu: After a freestyle rap challenge, Frizzy Stix sits down at a table, interrupting a romantic meal and raps all the menu choices into the mic. Underdog Chefs feel proud.

Seal - not playing in Whales

Statues Of Us to Howl into The Full Moon Cardiff

There is less of a difference between Wales and Killer Whales than one might think. Both speak a language that no-one can understand, both are capable of making really long-lasting oil… really struggling with this simile so we’ll get to the point Statues Of Us are returning to headline the Full Moon Bar in Cardiff this Sunday night to celebrate their first birthday!

The lineup, (much like a killer whale) is nothing short of stunning though disappointingly for Killer Whales  – Seal will not be playing. With a collection of the best music from Cymru as well as from all over the UK, Ireland and Scandanavia playing from 3pm  – it is going to be an absolute cracker.

Statues Of Us will be last on at 11pm upstairs. It is free entry so take the day off work, prepare excuses for the dole people or have some mints ready beside the bedlight for the morning. You would be a fool to miss out on what promises to be a …whale of a time… sorry.

Statues Of Us Perform Whiskeybitch on a Roof

There once was a band called The Beatles and they weren’t bad. They performed some of their top 50 hits including ‘Get Back’ a song written about John Lennon’s attempts at stealing food from Ringo’s fridge. However better known band Statues Of Us have oneupped (yes it’s a word) the fab four by performing Whiskeybitch on a roof of their own!

Alongside Balcony TV the ‘Sensational Sixsome’ (copywrite) played an acoustic version of their introspective song Whiskeybitch – a social commentary on female dogs who drink whiskey. The result some have claimed have been ‘astounding’ and ‘not bad’ according to reliable sources.

The Surviving Members of Statues Of Us Return to the Stage

After a summer of excessive drinking, new songs and European tours, Statues Of Us are returning to their more familiar stomping grounds of London and Cardiff. Armed with all the old favourites from Horny Mofo to Funk Shui as well as new classics to be such as Problems and The Sun Must Die – these shows are going to be bloody good.

First up is The Good Ship in Kilburn, London on September 21st September.

The Full Moon on September 30th is the next Welsh gig in Cardiff. A brilliant venue and a fantastic night to be had. Come join!

Statues Of Us Return to the Homeland to play Balcony TV

It has been way too long since Statues Of Us have played their favourite venue  – Whelan’s. On August 11th, at midnight the six piece will be playing an hour long set of their number one songs from around South East Asia and the recent top 5 hit in Guatemala.

In support will be Modesto  – a three piece infectious rock band from Dublin who have been causing more ripples than a fat man in a swimming pool in the Dublin music scene.

It’s going to be a fantastic night and wonderfully it is free in before 10pm. Keep your eyes open for competitions.
