Thankyou!
It has been a long time coming but Statues of Us’ debut album is finally ready for release. We chose the title 22nd & Balsam because this is the address in Vancouver where we first met, picked up a guitar and sang together. So it seems fitting that we have come full circle from those acoustic days and can now proudly show this masterpiece of an album to the world!
We have spent the last 6 months driving and megabussing up and down the M4 from London to the recording space in Cardiff with Driftup Records. Though this process was slow and at times painful, it gave us plenty of time and hindsight to make sure we produced the best possible record we could.
From 16 songs, we had to cut down to only 11 for the album. In the process, we said a temporary farewell to great songs like Funk Shui, Endure, Chemical Imbalance, Horny Motherfunker, Talk Shit and Gotta Get. We sterongly believe that 22nd & Balsam is going to be the best Australian / Irish/ Welsh / Hungarian / English album released in early May 2013!
A big thanks to Driftup Studios for recording this LP, mixmaster Mike’s Shed pre-production for ensuring consistency, Distract TV, Nick Frazer for his music video skills and persistent faith, former drummer Tristan Gibbs who we began this journey with, as well as Dragonlord Bringer of Light (Jez O’ Connell), Cliff Harris, Topper (Byron Thomas), Maria Granville’s Public House for ridiculous amounts of hospitality, Beth for the same reasons and for forcing people under threat of violence to watch us, Shay McK for being patron (!) and all of our families, fans and friends, who have pushed us this far, promoted us, travelled to see us, paid into gigs and even got us to number one in Vietnam (Roger McGrath, Simon Riley (also for building the brilliant website), Features, Calum Hill, Director Pat Maxwell, Marty Maxwell and Robbie Godsil)! Thankyou also to The Greenwood Sisters and Katarina for taking the photos for the album cover for ’22nd & Balsam’ We hope there are some very exciting times ahead together!
